B. Mus Contemporary and Composition

Ricardo is a Brazilian artist, 7-string guitarist, bassist and singer specialised in Choro, Samba, and MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). Born in Porto Alegre, he has been involved with music from a very young age. He pursued formal studies in music at UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul) in 2002, but his journey as a musician began earlier as a self-taught artist exploring a wide range of musical genres. In the early 2000s, he started performing professionally in his hometown, focusing on Rock and Pop-Rock repertoires before transitioning towards the rich traditions of Brazilian music. Over the years, his passion for sharing Brazilian culture has taken him beyond Brazil and Australia, allowing him to perform in countries such as Argentina, France, and Indonesia.

Since moving to Sydney, Australia, in 2012, Ricardo has been dedicated to developing and showcasing the music of his country abroad. He has performed in some of Sydney’s most prestigious venues, including The Factory Theatre, Lazybones, Camelot Lounge, and Foundry616. His main projects include Beliza, a 9-piece funky-samba band where he plays guitar and sings; Steyer Brothers, a Brazilian guitar duo; and Trio Teleboteco, a Choro trio where he showcases the 7-string guitar. Additionally, he has deepened his knowledge of Choro music through studies at the Escola Brasileira de Choro Raphael Rabello and ongoing mentorship with Fernando César, one of the foremost guitarists in this style.

Ricardo purposes as music tutor is to explore the creativity within the student, to develop personal confidence and the set of skills necessary to master a musical instrument, and to engage the studies with excitement, fun and an achievement plan.
