Kate began playing the piano at the age of 4, and the violin at 9. She began singing lessons in high school, leading to roles in the musical theatre. Kate originally trained for the theatre in London. On graduation she gained a leading role in London’s West End premiere production of ‘The Biograph Girl’, playing the silent screen star Lilian Gish. Kate was featured in the original cast recording. This lead to a string of roles in the musical theatre. Productions include ‘Kismet’, ‘Carousel’, ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’, ‘Into the Woods’, “Postman Pat’, ‘The Threepenny Opera’, ‘Glorious!’ and ‘The Secret Singer’.

Kate’s love of fine music drew her to work at the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as their publicist during the tenure as Chief Conductor of the late Stuart Challender. Kate explored the world of fine music recording as a researcher with the ABC’s Special Recordings Unit. As part of a theological degree, Kate made a special study of liturgical music, and has a broad knowledge of sacred music in the Western tradition. She has been a member of River City Voices, the Taverner Consort and is currently a soloist with the Macquarie Singers.

Kate loves ALL music: fine music, musical theatre, jazz, pop/rock, spirituals/folk, rnb, believing that every musical genre expresses something about the human condition. She began teaching her own four children (a bass player, a trumpeter/singer, a trombonist and a clarinet player respectively) music theory and interpretation. After gaining her AMusA from the AMEB, Kate began teaching students of singing, specialising in beginners of all ages. Kate believes that music is essential for all human beings and is committed to sharing her knowledge to students. Singers are ‘wind instruments’. What is special about the singer is that every singer is absolutely unique. There is no other instrument like yours, anywhere in the world. There is no voice like yours. Kate believes that – for all who are called – there is a responsibility to nurture and develop the singular, special voice that belongs only to you.
